The Pigeon Who Thought the Laundromat Was a Nightclub 04/12/2025

Rainy Day Supply Run at Local Laundromat

The Pigeon Rescue at Laundromat Begins

So I get a call from a local laundromat, and no, not because a raccoon stole someone’s socks (although, give it time). This time, it turned into a pigeon rescue at laundromat, thanks to one sparkling white guest who showed up the night before and decided the laundromat was not a laundromat at all. No, it was clearly a nightclub.

A sparkling white pigeon showed up the night before, turning what should have been a normal evening into a full laundromat pigeon rescue nobody saw coming. With that attitude, he strutted around like he owned the place. All the while, he cooed along to the hum of the vending machines, living it up all night long.

Come morning, the staff shows up for their shift… and guess who’s still there? Yep. Our little clubber. As soon as those doors opened, he just waltzed inside like he had a 7 a.m. brunch reservation and bottle service. Naturally, they pampered him with bird seed and water. I mean, who wouldn’t?

Then they called me, which meant I had to play bouncer. At that point, leaving was clearly not part of his plan. He gave me a look like, “Listen, I am the vibe.” Reluctantly, I had to break the news: You don’t have to go home, but you can’t stay here, bud.

A Banded Pigeon Rescue With No Owner Response

And here’s where it gets funnier. This wasn’t some anonymous alley pigeon. This banded pigeon rescue came with a name, number, and everything, basically a resume on his ankle. It really was like he had paperwork strapped to his leg. (If you ever find a banded pigeon, you can often trace the owner through the American Racing Pigeon Union.) But of course, I called. Then came the texts. After that, all I could do was wait, hoping this lost pet pigeon rescue would lead to someone stepping up.

I don’t know why people go through the trouble of banding a bird with GPS-level detail and then ghost the moment that bird actually needs them. Truth is, he’s gorgeous. He’s healthy. And now? He’s ours. Because he may be unwanted at home, but he’s very wanted here.

Meanwhile, in Squirrel Land…

While the pigeon rescue at laundromat was still fresh in my mind, that same day we also took in two orphaned baby squirrels who were just about old enough to be on their own. With another week of practice learning how to squirrel, plus a little mentorship from their fuzzy peers, they’ll be off like a shot. Fast little chaos beans, the both of them.

Some Come From Clubs, Some Come From Trees

Not everyone ends up in rescue the same way. Some wander in looking for a party. Others fall out of a nest. A few are released from people who once cared and just, stopped.

But whether they come in feathered, furred, or a little too full of themselves, we make sure they’re safe, seen, and given a second chance. This pigeon rescue at laundromat is just another reminder that help can show up in the most unexpected places.

Because even party pigeons deserve a soft landing.
