Day 3 of our seven-part April 23 series.
April 23, 1014. Brian Boru wins the Battle of Clontarf and ends Viking rule in Ireland. The same afternoon, retreating Vikings stumble into his tent and kill him before sundown. Greatest military victory in Irish history. Same day as the king’s death.
We tell this story today because it is the one in the lineup that hits closest to home. At Ruffled Feathers Parrot Sanctuary we have lost animals we worked hard to save. Calls have come in too late. The work hands you losses you did not expect.
But you show up the next morning. That is the whole job.
To everyone who has loved an animal we lost, thank you for the love. To everyone still showing up alongside us, thank you for the showing up.
Day 4 lifts the mood — Hank Aaron’s first home run.
