Shepherdsville Goose Rescue Started With One Call
Not every wildlife rescue begins with sirens and flashing lights. Sometimes it starts with a single phone call, a concerned citizen, and someone willing to step up when an animal needs help.
That was exactly how this Shepherdsville goose rescue began.
A Call About an Injured Goose
Late in the evening we received a call from Shepherdsville about a Canada goose that was having a difficult time walking. The caller was worried something was seriously wrong and sent us a video of the bird struggling to move.
That video made all the difference.
Being able to see the goose before anyone arrived helped us quickly assess the situation and decide the safest way to respond. Photos and videos from the public are often incredibly valuable because they allow us to plan the rescue before we ever leave.
Shepherdsville Goose Rescue Teamwork in Action
This is exactly why our volunteer network is so important.
As soon as we knew help was needed, we reached out to one of our volunteers. Jordan happened to already be in the Shepherdsville area and immediately offered to respond.
Sometimes wildlife rescue is all about being in the right place at the right time, and this was one of those moments.
Within a short time, Jordan safely captured the goose and transported our feathered patient to our wildlife drop-off location on Dixie Highway, where the next stage of care could begin.
That is what teamwork looks like.
How Volunteers Support Injured Canada Goose Rescue
People often tell us they would love to help but don’t think they have the right experience.
The truth is, there are countless ways to make a difference.
Some volunteers rescue animals in the field. Others transport wildlife, answer phone calls, organize supplies, help with events, or assist behind the scenes. Every role matters because every rescued animal depends on people working together.
We expect to help thousands of animals this year, and there is always room for compassionate people who want to be part of something meaningful.
What to Do If You Find an Injured Goose
If you discover a goose or other wild animal that appears injured:
Keep a safe distance and avoid causing additional stress.
If possible, take clear photos or a short video from a safe location.
Do not chase the animal unless instructed by a licensed wildlife rehabilitator.
Contact a licensed wildlife rescue organization as soon as possible and provide the exact location and what you observed.
f you find an injured goose or other wild animal, avoid chasing it and contact a licensed wildlife rehabilitator as soon as possible. The Humane Society also offers excellent guidance on what to do if you encounter injured or orphaned wildlife.
Thank You for Supporting Wildlife Rescue
Every rescue reminds us what can happen when a community works together.
A caring caller noticed an animal in trouble. A volunteer answered the call without hesitation. Together, one more injured goose was given a chance.
Thank you for following along and supporting the work we do every day. Whether you volunteer, share our stories, or simply watch out for wildlife in your community, you are helping save lives.
Have a great night, everyone.
