This small animal feeding syringe kit is a practical tool for wildlife rehabbers caring for baby opossums, squirrels, rabbits, and other small mammals that require careful syringe feeding.

A small animal feeding syringe is one of the most important tools a wildlife rehabber can have during baby season. When baby opossums, squirrels, or other tiny mammals arrive dehydrated or too weak to nurse, controlled syringe feeding is often the safest way to provide fluids or formula. When baby season hits here in Kentucky, one of the most common questions we hear is, “How do I safely feed this baby?”

Why Wildlife Rehabbers Use a Small Animal Feeding Syringe Kit

For tiny wildlife like baby opossums, squirrels, and rabbits, regular bottles often do not work. Many babies arrive dehydrated, weak, or too small to latch onto a nipple. In those situations, wildlife rehabbers often rely on small feeding syringes and soft tubes to deliver fluids or formula carefully.

This feeding kit includes multiple syringe sizes and flexible feeding tubes designed for small animals. It allows controlled feeding so the rehabber can deliver very small amounts of fluid without overwhelming the baby.

At the sanctuary we always stress that feeding wildlife should be done carefully and ideally under the guidance of a licensed wildlife rehabilitator or veterinarian. Aspiration is a real risk if feeding is done improperly.

That said, when used correctly, syringe feeding is one of the most common techniques used during early wildlife care.

This kit can be useful for baby opossums, squirrels, rabbits, and other small mammals that require careful syringe feeding during rescue or rehabilitation.

During peak rescue season we go through syringes constantly. Having proper feeding supplies ready before you need them can make a big difference for fragile babies. Having a small animal feeding syringe ready before an emergency can make a big difference when caring for fragile wildlife babies.
