April 23, 1954. Milwaukee County Stadium. A 20-year-old Hank Aaron hits his first major league home run. He went on to hit 754 more. Every legend starts with a first swing.
Today we are telling that story alongside a hero you have probably never heard of. A mother opossum came to Ruffled Feathers Parrot Sanctuary after a roadside accident. She could not move her back legs. She had nine babies in her pouch and refused to quit on them. She nursed them as long as she could. She did the work we could not.
Twenty thousand animals later, here we are. Humans are not the only heroes out there.
